Signs of Autumn 🍂 What a Hot Summer Means for Our Local Landscape

As many of us paused to catch a glimpse of the recent eclipse, there were already signs much closer to earth that the seasons were beginning to shift. Across the countryside, nature has been quietly telling us that summer is on its way out, even if the calendar says otherwise.

After weeks of sunshine and soaring temperatures, many of us are breathing a sigh of relief as cooler mornings begin to return. In fact, some parts of the landscape seemed so eager for autumn that they started a few weeks early!

This summer's heat has fast-forwarded the farming calendar, with harvest getting underway sooner than many expected. Fields that were golden and bustling just a short while ago are already cleared, giving the countryside a distinctly autumnal feel.

Nature has been feeling the effects too. Dry ponds, thirsty wildlife and trees shedding leaves early have created what's often known as a "false autumn". If you've spotted leaves falling and wondered whether someone had accidentally skipped September, you're not alone.

There is good news though. Our local farming community knows a thing or two about resilience. Every season brings its challenges, and this year has certainly tested everyone. Yet as always, farmers have adapted, worked hard, and kept our countryside looking its best.

As the temperatures settle and autumn properly arrives, we'll be watching to see how the landscape recovers from its summer sunbathing marathon.
